Joseph E. Hayward PhD, MCCPM
Dr. Joseph E. Hayward is a medical physicist certified by the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine in the area of Radiation Oncology Physics. Dr. Hayward is a healthcare professional with specialized training in the medical applications of physics. He is currently a Senior Medical Physicist, Radiation Safety Officer and Laser Safety Officer at the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton, Ontario and an Associate Professor in Radiology and The School of Interdisciplinary Science at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. His work involves the use of x-rays, ultrasound, magnetic and electric fields, infrared and ultraviolet light, heat and lasers in diagnosis and therapy.

Dr. Hayward’s PhD dissertation concerned laser physics so he is highly qualified in the safe use of lasers and laser systems. Let our medical physics team train your staff or design your laser safety program to adhere to the standards of the Canadian Safety Association publication Z386-14 Safe Use of Lasers in Heath Care or ANSI 136.1 Safe Use of Lasers. Since Dr. Hayward is also a licensed Radiation Safety Officer licensed with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, we can provide training in radiation safety, radiobiology and consultations on adhering to any federal or provincial legislative standards.

Dr. Hayward is trained as an engineer, a certified medical physicist and a licensed Radiation Safety Officer ensuring our professional team has the ability to provide or verify the necessary room design and shielding measurements required by the province of Ontario under the Radiation Emitting Devices Act (REDA) or HARP Act for facilities installing and/or replacing diagnostic equipment. We can also provide room design and shielding requirements for radiation in the therapeutic energy range which is governed by the CNSC.
